With the end of the R.I. midterm elections coming up soon, a poll was released with predicted results and outcomes of the election showing Gina Raimondo to be trailing Democrat Alan Fung by just over 13%. Fung is predicted to win by 55% of the poll and Raimondo is predicted by 42.2%.
Both electives have been a heated topic for discussion for the past few weeks. Both Fung and Raimodo would be milestones for R.I.’s government, Fung being the first Asian-American that would be elected into office and Raimodo being the first woman to be elected as governor in R.I.
Why is this important? Bringing jobs back to the people of this state has been an ongoing issue for many years. Fung has spoken at length of his plans to remove certain paperwork involving small businesses and taxing in order to stop the frequent violations small businesses receive for not filling out paperwork properly. On the other hand, Raimondo sees the paperwork as something that needs to stay, and that she will require increased training for employers to teach to employees in order to prevent mishaps with filing.
Rhode Island currently has one of the highest unemployment rates in the United States. With Fung or Raimondo in office, there may be hope for the small state.
