Farm Fresh Rhode Island Market Mobile Helps Organic Food Scene Grow

BRISTOL, R.I.__The Farm Fresh Rhode Island Market Mobile is increasing organic food sales and consumption. Every week a truck will deliver foods and product from over 50 local farms to various farmers markets, restaurants and businesses.

In 2009 Farm Fresh launched a new program called Market Mobile aimed at getting more local and organic products into restaurants and other businesses. Running a restaurant means ordering food that can be received in a timely manor which usually results in many places buying from the closest vendor.

The Market Mobile created an opportunity for growers to interact with businesses without managers having to leave the restaurants.

From 2009 until 2013, the program has brought in a total revenue of $5.5 million with $1.9 million dollars coming from the 2013 season. Sales are expected to rise again as the organic food industry continues to grow.

Other areas such as the Arcadia Market Mobile left have also adopted market mobiles to increase the amount of organic food used in the industry.
